We appreciate the opportunity to serve you and your family. Our goal is to provide the very best care for all patients. This can be achieved only if the lines of communication are established and maintained. Accordingly, we ask that you spend a few minutes reviewing the following information. If, after reading this information, you still have unanswered questions, please feel free to ask any one of our representatives.

Why all the Questions every visit?

The receptionist will have you fill out an information form at every visit to the office. This will assist the doctors in providing comprehensive treatment for your child. For instance, your telephone number and address may be essential to provide prescriptions for your child, or to report important lab and x-ray results. Be assured that your response to our questions will be held in the strictest confidence.

Appointment hours.

Our appointment hours are 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday thru Friday, and 8:15 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. on Saturday. Office visits are by appointment to most effectively utilize your time and the physicians time. Office emergencies do occur as any parent can appreciate, and delays happen. Your understanding in such situations is appreciated.

Emergencies

Emergencies do occur where children are concerned. Most of them can be handled in the office during working hours. However, if an emergency occurs outside of office hours, a pediatrician is always on call. Contact the pediatrician on call by calling the usual office number, 622-2606 or toll free at 1-800-222-9876. Whether speaking to our staff during office hours, or speaking with the answering service after hours, identify yourself, identify your primary care provider, and describe the emergency in sufficient detail to determine how it can best be handled. If you have not received a call back from the physician on call in a timely manner, please call back and resubmit your request.

Phone Calls

Routine questions about well baby care, minor illnesses, physician’s instructions, etc., can be answered by calling our office during regular office hours. We have nurses specifically trained to help you with your questions, under the specific guidance of our physicians. Questions of an emergent or urgent nature will be directed to the physician on call if your physician is unavailable.

What is a Board Certified Physician?

Pediatrics is a medical specialty, focusing on care of both well and sick children from infancy through adolescence. Those who practice pediatrics are taught to evaluate the effect nutrition, illness, injuries and proper care can have on growth and development of children. Pediatricians believe that most problems can be handled in the office, and children need to be hospitalized only when they are too ill to be cared for safely at home. Like all specialties, pediatrics requires a long training period. The formal education consists of four years of college, four years of medical school (at which time one receives the regular medical degree, M.D.), one year of internship and two additional years of residency training, all devoted exclusively to pediatric care. A pediatrician is trained to handle seriously ill newborns, children, and adolescence who must be hospitalized, as well as handling normal growth and development. We pride ourselves in being well-trained, as well as continuing to update our knowledge through continuing medical education. All this is done in an attempt to provide your children with the best care and the most up-to-date knowledge available in our specialty.

Billing and Collection

The billing process is expensive and time consuming. Therefore, we require that charges are to be paid at the time services are rendered. We appreciate that hospitalizations and other larger fees can cause financial hardship for some families. Our financial counselor is available to establish a payment schedule if necessary. Please let us know if we can assist you. It is not our policy to refuse service, but we retain the right to refuse granting credit

Insurance

Insurance forms will be filed for all hospital and nursery charges. Claims for companies that we contract with will be filed by us. It is your responsibility to provide us with the correct insurance information, co-pays, deductibles, and non-covered services. Our services are provided to the patient, not the insurance company. Therefore, ultimate responsibility for payment remains yours.

Choice of Physicians

We believe that the best patient/physician relationship is based upon mutual trust and satisfaction. You may request the doctor of your choice, but, if no appointments are available, we will offer an alternate physician of your choice at a time convenient for you.

Physician/Patient Relationship

The practice of pediatrics requires a very high level of mutual understanding, respect, and confidence. Our aim is to offer care in accordance with the highest standards and we request that you reciprocate by placing confidence in our judgment. If you have any doubts or reservations, please convey them to us, and do not hesitate to request another opinion. As practitioners, we work closely together, share similar philosophies, and conduct similar styles of medical practice. We encourage you to see the physician of your choice. However, after hours, on weekends, and on short notice, you may be required to see one of the other physicians in the group. You can be assured of the best possible care at all times. Everyone in our office feels that the patient/physician relationship is unique, personal, and confidential. We will continually strive to keep it that way and look forward to serving you and your family.

What is HIPPA?

HIPPA is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, which was fully implemented in 2003. This act is comprised if a Privacy Standard and a Security Standard. The purpose of this act is to develop the standards and requirements for maintenance and transmission of health information that identifies individual patients. The HIPPA Privacy Standard establishes new rights for patients to control the uses and disclosures of their PHI (Protected Health Information) and mandates new obligations on the part of those who store and transmit that information to keep it protected. HIPPA Privacy pertains to those who have the right to access PHI. The privacy rule encompasses all individually identifiable health information that is housed by health care organizations. The intent of the Security Standard is to ensure the PHI cannot be altered, misused, or destroyed-intentionally or accidentally- while being electronically transmitted or stored. Thus, compliance requires appropriate technological measures and physical security safeguards to maintain the security of PHI. This Security Standard requires changes in workforce behavior by altering existing and/or implementing new administrative procedures, policies,workforce training and record keeping practices.
